Child hunger and malnutrition are persistent problems worldwide: one child in three in developing countries is stunted and malnutrition accounts for 35% of children’s deaths that occur every year. Children who survive are more vulnerable to infection, don’t reach their full height potential and experience impaired cognitive development. This means they do less well in school, earn less as adults and contribute less to the economy. Malnourished women are more likely to give birth to low-birthweight babies.
